  • About the DopeScope

AKA the Shrodinger Scope. During normal hunting, the scope will display a list of the top WiFi Access Points in the area, their RSSI and their encryption type.

Inside the 360DopeScope is a small WiFi Microcontroller. This ESP8266 chip provides an 802.11b/g/n wireless interface, a small microprocessor and a small amount of flash storage. We have programmed the chip to perform WiFi surveys and display the result on a small OLED display via SPI. To view the screen so closely, we borrowed some 45mm focal length lenses from our Google Cardboards and use some small single cell LiPo batteries from our drone spare parts kit. We spun a small carrier board with a voltage regulator and programming headers (and our sweet logo!). All in all, this little project is a fairly cheap example of the cool things you can do with some of the IoT chips hitting the market these days.

This area is to be used to discuss the DopeScope, upload and download new enhancements, and to help develop new features.

I just got one yesterday. I love it! I know what the SSIDs are and the rssi values; but what are the other fields? Thanks.

First column is rssi, second column is channel, third column is encryption level, forth is SSID.

Thank you! Follow up question. The locks, I see one under the S and under the C, are those for WPA and WPA2? I also noticed some that have a lock that looks unlocked, what's happening there?

Locked symbol is wpa. Unlocked is wep. No symbol is unencrypted.

I ordered one and am super excited.. the idea that now i can actually know WHERE the network is not just that its somewhere around me is a dream come true. Thats said, i have a few questions.

                    1. What powers this device? li-po?
                    2. is it usb chargeable?
                    3. is there a power switch?
                    4. is the RSSI displayed in db or percent?

Hello, Could you post some more updates on fulfillment progress / when you are expecting more dopes scopes in? Also you seem to have picked up a spammer.

Sorry for the late response NetGod3Com,
Not sure I follow what you are asking. AP± client means that the esp can run an ap while also connecting to another AP. Kind of like a repeater. Client mode is just the so connecting to an appointment as a client.

ButcherP3T3, I am inquiring about bullet point 4 on the 360˚ DopeScope pdf, sorry I didn't use the same terms AP/AP+Station/Station. It would be very useful in finding rogue stations(clients) on the network, Darren Kitchens mentioned it in the video that led me to the site and when I saw it on the feature sheet, I purchased one right away. Also the clock on the server is set wrong or has the wrong time zone configured. As your post apparently hasn't occurred yet
